Biotechnology, it's application, how to enter in this field

Biotechnology and it's scope

  • What is biotechnology?
  • What are the scopes of biotechnology?
  • What is the importance of biotechnology?
  • Is biotech can shape my future?
  • How to enter in the field of biotech?
  • What are the requirements needed for entrying in the field of biotech?

If you all have also such type of questions than you are at correct place, here you will get all the answers of your questions.

So, lets begin,

What is biotechnology?

We, can see easily that our day to day life is getting easy, we get any vegetable any time that is in off season also,

Do you know why it is,

Do you remember that earlier the tomato which we get ripen easily and sometime without using those tomato they get to its worst stage that is because of its outer layer which was very thin, but now the tomato which we are using do not ripe easily, there outer layer is not that much soft as earlier tomato is having.

So, do you think so that migration of tomatoes thin layer to thick layer is sudden?

No its not sudden this all is the magic of biotechnology.

By hearing the word biotechnology we think that it is new term, but no biotechnology has a long past years of history.

Biotechnology by the word define biology with technology that is a branch of science where we use living organism and by using technology on it we make it more good , beneficial, or advance or in simple word we can say that biotechnology is the branch of science which is making our life style easier and easier by day to day.

For example-

By making vaccine -

Which helps all of us to be secure from the diseases like Polio, mumps, rubella, chicken pox .

By which the infectious disease rates reduce.

Agricultural development-

It include improved yield from crops, increased nutritional qualities, improved taste and quality of food.

Biotechnology in animals-

Improving the breeding stock of animals. These include artificial insemination(AI), embryo transfer (EI), In vitro fertilization (IVF).

Diary products-

Biotechnology is used from the earlier centuries for the dairy products, for increasing the quality and quantity of milk.

Industrial product-

It include modern application of biotechnology for sustainable processing and production of chemical products, materials and biofuels.

Use of enzyme and microorganism to make bio based products in making food ingredients, detergents.

Fermentation technology-

It plays a key role application in the pharmaceuticals company  where they use microorganism and enzyme for production of compound.

So, by knowing so many advantages of biotechnology above,

By me now you are having a brief picture of biotechnology and its role in our day to day life.

So, now lets talk about what are the scopes of biotechnology.

Biotechnology in everyday life-

All times, biotechnology has the greatest effect in places you never notice-

  • Safe and healthier food

As obesity rates climb to epidemic levels, biotechnology is helping to create a new generation of healthier oils from soybeans, canola and sunflowers. These oils are free of the trans fats that can raise cholesterol and contribute to heart disease.

Other biotechnology products would improve nutritional content. One such product, “golden rice,” would provide vitamin A to millions of people in developing countries who suffer from a deficiency of this vitamin, which is critical for eyesight and anemia prevention. This is only one example of several fortified foods now in development.

  • Public Safety

Scientists are also modifying mustard plants to serve as "sentinel plants" that warn of chemical warfare agents or animal pathogens such as anthrax. Recently, a Danish company announced it had developed a plant that can be used to detect land mines by changing colors when its roots encounter a mine. DNA fingerprinting, a biotech process, has transformed criminal investigation and forensic medicine, as well as afforded significant advances in anthropology and wildlife management

  • Ocean Water Based Bioforms

Over 70% of the earth surface is covered by seawater, and it is the most abundant water source available on the planet. But we are yet to discover the full potential of it. For example with halophilic bacteria capable of growing in the seawater can be engineered to grow faster and produce useful products including chemicals, fuels and polymeric materials. Ocean agriculture is also a promising technology. It is based on the photosynthetic biomass from the oceans, like macroalgae and microalgae.

  • Utilizing Carbon dioxide as a crude material-

Biotechnology is poised to contribute solutions to mitigate the growing threat of rising CO2 levels. Recent advances are rapidly increasing our understanding of how living organisms consume and use CO2. By harnessing the power of these natural biological systems, scientists are engineering a new wave of approaches to convert waste CO2 and C1 molecules into energy, fuels, chemicals, and new materials.

What are the scopes of biotechnology?

By knowing above about the biotechnology now your mind should be clear about the biotechnology, and if you seriously wanna enter toward this field so, you should not be worried about your carrier because biotechnology itself contain a broad sector.

What all biotechnology contains?

  • Biophysics
  • Chemistry
  • Biomathematics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Zoology
  • Botany
  • Cell biology
  • Genetics
  • Immunology
  • Molecular biology
  • Microbiology
  • Biochemistry
  • Food technology
  • Animal biotechnology
  • Plant biotechnology

AFTER 12 th HOW TO ENTER IN A FIELD OF BIOTECH-

If you are seriously willing to enter in a field of biotech than one of the most important thing you must have is-

You should be from a stream of either math or science.

No commerce or Art stream student can have a carrier in biotech.

So, a person with math or science background can make a good carrier in biotech.

  • A math student can do B Tech from biotech
  • A biology student can do BSc from biotech

B Tech Biotechnology-

B Tech  biotech is a multi year long undergraduate level 4 years college education program which is isolated into 8 semester.

The course prospectus expects to give information and the use of the equivalent.

The famous B Tech biotechnology colleges in India

  • IIT
  • DELHI TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
  • NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
  • ANNA UNIVERSITY, CHENNAI
  • BIRLA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, MESAR
  • VELLORE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY , TAMIL NADU
  • INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY, MUMBAI
  • SCHOOL OF BIOTECHNOLOGY, MADURAI UNIVERSITY
  • JAYPEE UNIVERSITY
  • SHOOLINI UNIVERSITY, HIMANCHAL PRADESH

SCOPES AFTER B Tech BIOTECH -

After B Tech biotechnology you can easily apply for the various job opportunity like-

1-DRUG AND PHARMACEUTICALS RESEARCH
2- FOOD PROCESSING
3-BIO-PROCESSING INDUSTRIES
4-PUBLIC FUNDED
5-LABORATORIES CHEMICALS
6-ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL
7-WASTE MANAGEMENT
8-ENERGY

You can even be the Business Developer after B tech biotechnology and if you wanna study more and wanna gain more knowledge and wanna get expert in this field than you can study further for M tech and than too PhD

Or you can ever opt MBA biotech after completing your bachelors degree.

BSc biotechnology-

BSc biotechnology is a 3 years college class , including a propelled investigation of the cell and biomolecular forms for the advancement of an assortment of innovation and items that add to improving individuals lives and well being.

The famous BSc biotechnology colleges in india-

1- Punjab university
2-Madras Christian College (chennai)
3-Parul University
4-Calicut University
5-Bhundelkhand University
6-Amity University ( mumbai)
7-Manipal school of life science
8- LPU Lovely Professional University
9- SHOOLINI University

SCOPES AFTER BSC BIOTECHNOLOGY

The popular job profiles after BSc biotechnology is-

1-Research analyst
2-Forensic experts
3-Calibration Technician
4-Biostatistician
5-Clinical Research Manager
6-Scientific assistant
And many more......

And if you wanna study more and want more knowledge to gain in this field of biotechnology than i personally recommend you to go further for MSc  biotech.

Because biotech is  a field where you need a good knowledge in your  sector.
And a bachelor degree will not give you sufficient knowledge.
