What is biotechnology? 




We, can see easily that our day to day life is getting easy, we get any vegetable any time that is in off season also,

Do you know why it is,

Do you remember that earlier the tomato which we get ripen easily and sometime without using those tomato they get to its worst stage that is because of its outer layer which was very thin, but now the tomato which we are using do not ripe easily,there outer layer is not that much soft as earlier tomato is having.




So, do you think so that migration of tomatoes thin layer to thick layer is sudden?


No its not sudden this all is the magic of biotechnology.


By hearing the word biotechnology we think that it is new term, but no biotechnology has a long past years of history.


Biotechnology by the word define biology with technology that is a branch of science where we use living organism and by using technology on it we make it more good , beneficial, or advance or in simple word we can say that biotechnology is the branch of science which is making our life style easier and easier by day to day.


For example-

By making vaccine -

Which helps all of us to be secure from the diseases like Polio, mumps, rubella, chicken pox .


By which the infectious disease rates reduce.

Agricultural development-

It include improved yield from crops, increased nutritional qualities, improved taste and quality of food.




Biotechnology in animals-

Improving the breeding stock of animals. These include artificial insemination(AI), embryo transfer (EI), In vitro fertilization (IVF).




Diary products-

Biotechnology is used from the earlier centuries for the dairy products, for increasing the quality and quantity of milk.





Industrial product-

It include modern application of biotechnology for sustainable processing and production of chemical products, materials and biofuels.



Use of enzyme and microorganism to make bio based products in making food ingredients, detergents.


Fermentation technology-

It plays a key role application in the pharmaceuticals company  where they use microorganism and enzyme for production of compound.

  • Safe and healthier food

As obesity rates climb to epidemic levels, biotechnology is helping to create a new generation of healthier oils from soybeans, canola and sunflowers. These oils are free of the trans fats that can raise cholesterol and contribute to heart disease.

Other biotechnology products would improve nutritional content. One such product, “golden rice,” would provide vitamin A to millions of people in developing countries who suffer from a deficiency of this vitamin, which is critical for eyesight and anemia prevention. This is only one example of several fortified foods now in development.



  • Public Safety

Scientists are also modifying mustard plants to serve as "sentinel plants" that warn of chemical warfare agents or animal pathogens such as anthrax. Recently, a Danish company announced it had developed a plant that can be used to detect land mines by changing colors when its roots encounter a mine. DNA fingerprinting, a biotech process, has transformed criminal investigation and forensic medicine, as well as afforded significant advances in anthropology and wildlife management




  • Ocean Water Based Bioforms

Over 70% of the earth surface is covered by seawater, and it is the most abundant water source available on the planet. But we are yet to discover the full potential of it. For example with halophilic bacteria capable of growing in the seawater can be engineered to grow faster and produce useful products including chemicals, fuels and polymeric materials. Ocean agriculture is also a promising technology. It is based on the photosynthetic biomass from the oceans, like macroalgae and microalgae.



  • Utilizing Carbon dioxide as a crude material-


Biotechnology is poised to contribute solutions to mitigate the growing threat of rising CO2 levels. Recent advances are rapidly increasing our understanding of how living organisms consume and use CO2. By harnessing the power of these natural biological systems, scientists are engineering a new wave of approaches to convert waste CO2 and C1 molecules into energy, fuels, chemicals, and new materials.

So, a person with math or science background can make a good carrier in biotech.
